Discovering New Filmmakers from all over the World

A screening of the finalists of the Seventh Annual International Short Film Festival

Organized by the Meeting of Friendship among Peoples, in collaboration with the School of Visual Arts of New York, and Crossroads Cultural Center

With the participation of Jonathan FIELDS, composer, Ken GENUARD, actor, Giovanni MORRICONE, Filmmaker, and Salvatore PETROSINO, Director, Film, Video and Animation Department at the School of Visual Arts

A good movie is the beginning of a good journey, and a challenge to our view of life and our understanding of the world. Therefore, cinema is not just a form of entertainment, as today we are sometimes inclined to think, but a true method of knowledge. In one way or another, all movies are about the question of happiness. In the words of a well-known screen-writing teacher, Carmen Sofia Brenes, "We all instinctively realize that stories and movies, if they are genuine, say something about humanity and the human dimension; they speak to us about life, not theoretically but in terms of live experience, which carries an unquenchable desire for happiness. This is what we are truly looking for when we go to see a film or read a story." Jean Luc Godard, a French Swiss director, used to say that cinema is "life at twenty four frames per second."

For this event, we have invited some friends and professionals to help us know and understand more deeply the inner life of movies and their many facets: Plot, characters, visual stories, music.

The proposal in not only to enter into a different, fictional world, but also to discover in it an enriching experience. In the words of Armando Fumagalli, a professor of semiotic and screen-writing, "Film is an experience that may help us understand a little better the world and ourselves, and may open us up to emotions and perceptions that we could never have reached by ourselves."

After viewing the short films, there will be a Q & A with the speakers.

The screening is free and open to the public.
