Everything Matters: Changing a Culture

The experience of a high school football team whose players discover a burning desire for greatness through the relationship with their coach.

with Dan JAJCZYK, former coach of the Adam City High School football team Commerce City, Denver, and introduced by Aaron ONTIVEROZ, Director of The Denver Post documentary “Everything Matters”

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center and The Denver Post

Before 2014, the Adams City Eagles had won just one of their previous 50 football games. For years, the school rested in the shadows of a growing and vibrant downtown Denver. However, on top of the school's struggling football program, Adams City High School had been challenged with academic performance measures and budget constraints that led to a state mandated five-year turnaround plan. If the school and students were unable to achieve these standards, the school was expected to suffer adverse consequences or even be closed.

However, in 2014 something began to change. The school, specifically, the football team, began to live a new culture. Eagles' Coach Dan Jajczyk only knew how to play football in one way, and one way only: by building a true team. Coach Jajczyk didn't just want to work with a group of individual players, but instead, he wanted to build a family united in one goal for each member - to believe in themselves and one another. Coach Jajczyk and his coaching staff looked at each player that season and proposed a training environment where "Everything Matters" and football would be the foundation where companionship would eventually blossom into brotherhood, community, and success. Under first-year Head Coach Dan Jajczyk, the Eagles achieved the unbelievable in their 2014 season - one that no one in the community would ever forget. It would not be forgotten not for final tally in the win/loss column, but instead, the season would be remembered for the changed hearts and renewed hope in its community. Every decision, every play, every game that season resonated at a level that truly connected with the human heart and led to being a part of something greater than oneself. The Eagles' 2014 football season became an undeniable experience that took the position that "Everything Matters."

The event is open to the public and free of charge.
