STARDUST

A presentation on stellar evolution in the latest stunning observations in astrophysics

With Dr. Luca MATONE, Astrophysicist, Member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration responsible for the Nobel winning discovery of gravitational waves

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center

One of the many fascinating aspects of the history of the universe is how the 118 chemical elements that make up our world came to be, starting only from primordial clouds of hydrogen under the action of gravity. Recently, LIGO observations of gravitational waves have shed new light on this process, and helped fill in some important gaps in our understanding. Dr. Luca Matone, a long-time LIGO collaborator, will tell the amazing story of the formation of chemical elements, from the earliest discoveries to the latest results.

The event is free and open to the public.
